By the end of the first decade of the new millennium we can cut the death rate of all kids in developing countries by half - or more - with currently proven technologies.

The Big Five Disease Killers of children in the world are:
1. Measles
2. Malaria
3. Diarrheal Diseases
4. Pneumonia
5. Malnutrition

These 5 diseases kill most of the 10 million children who die each year. What can we do about them, about stopping the deaths? Plenty. We have the tools to drop the death rate in half within 5 years.

The News: By the end of the first decade of the new millennium we can cut the death rate of all kids in developing countries by half - or more - with currently proven technologies.

This is news, even to the scientific community. How did we get here? What set the stage for this bold assertion is Rotary International. In the mid-1980's Rotary International came up with the money to pay for enough vaccine for polio. The methods developed for delivering polio vaccine were adapted to Measles Vaccination which started in 2001.

In 2002 and 2003 the Measles Vaccination campaigns experimented with adding Insecticide Treated Nets, long known to reduce malaria by 50% and have many other beneficial effects. The results: spectacular!

The campaigns for malaria are about to get underway. This book explains some of the background and interrelationships of the campaigns. As money gets raised it goes to campaigns. We will do as many as fast as we raise the money.

Many people hear only how bad things are in the world. Yup, the situations are terrible. AND we can do something about them, several things actually.

There are many solutions and much to be hopeful about. The inputs here potentially will create virtuous cycles. The virtuous cycles may be strong enough to break the vicious cycles currently at work. We hope you become part of the solution. Our combined strengths can solve many of the problems of the world, quite literally.
